Data Center Operations Manager

GDIT seeks a Data Center Manager for our federal client in their Infrastructure team.

• Manage end‑to‑end Data Center Operations comparable in size, complexity, availability, and scope to the environment supported under this contract.
• Oversee mainframe and distributed server security, including physical and logical controls, disaster recovery failover, business‑continuity execution, and batch scheduling across Windows, UNIX, and mainframe platforms.
• Direct operations of large‑scale server environments exceeding 2,000 physical servers and more than 15,000 physical or virtual server instances.
• Plan, lead, and execute server consolidation and virtualization initiatives across Windows, Solaris, and Red Hat Linux production environments.
• Manage enterprise‑class storage technologies (Windows, Solaris, Red Hat, VMware), driving operational best practices, standardizing provisioning, and overseeing storage migrations and performance optimizations.
• Implement ITIL‑aligned standards and operational processes within a high‑availability, dynamic data center environment.
• Lead 24x7x365 data center monitoring functions supporting national‑level services, ensuring proactive and reactive management of faults and failures.
• Oversee IBM Z10 mainframe operations running the z/OS operating system.
• Translate business requirements into clear technical strategies, solutions, and execution plans.
• Provide systems engineering leadership across large, complex infrastructure environments.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other scientific or technical discipline directly related to this labor category (or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree)
• 10+ years of working experience managing server and support services, including at least 3 years in an IT outsourcing environment to manage Contractor Personnel performance of the Services
• ITIL v4 or v5 Foundation Certifiication is required by the customer to be considered for this role.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, time‑management and problem‑solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to interact professionally with executives, customers, vendors, and department staff
• Project management experience is a plus
• U.S. Citizenship and background investigation is required; you must have a current clean financial background
• Position is onsite in Washington, DC, Monday–Friday.

• Demonstrated experience managing Data Center Operations similar in size, complexity, dynamics, availability and scope to that of the contract
• Demonstrated experience managing mainframe and server physical and logical security, disaster recovery failover, business continuity, and batch job scheduling across mainframe and distributed (Windows and UNIX) environments
• Demonstrated experience managing large server environments with more than 2,000 physical servers supporting 15,000+ physical or virtual server instances
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing server consolidation and virtualization on Windows, Solaris, and Red Hat Linux in production environments
• Demonstrated experience managing enterprise‑class storage technologies (Windows, Solaris, Red Hat, VMware) including provisioning standards, operational best practices, and storage migrations or optimizations
• Demonstrated experience implementing ITIL processes in a large, highly available, dynamic data center
• Demonstrated experience managing a 24x7x365 data center supporting national services with proactive and reactive fault management
• Demonstrated experience managing IBM Z10 mainframe environments running z/OS
• Demonstrated experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
• Demonstrated experience performing systems engineering within large, complex infrastructures

U.S. Citizenship and a background investigation are required; you must have a current clean financial background. The role requires flexibility to support issues or planned activities after hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
