Orthopedic Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) + Surrounding Naval Branch Health Clinics
Positions Available: 2
Target Start- July 2026

GDIT’s Military Health Team is seeking highly skilled Orthopedic Registered Nurses to deliver high‑quality musculoskeletal and post‑operative care within the Military Treatment Facility setting. This is an opportunity to support active‑duty service members, veterans, and their families at one of the nation’s most respected military medical centers.

Work Schedule:

  • Services provided Monday–Friday, between 0600–1800
  • Shifts range from 8.5, 9.5, or 10.5 hours, each including a 60‑minute uncompensated lunch break
  • Never more than 80 hours per two‑week period

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Graduate of an ACEN‑ or CCNE‑accredited nursing program
  • 1 year of RN experience within the last 2 years
  • Active, unrestricted RN license
  • Knowledge of orthopedic nursing practices strongly preferred

Core Responsibilities

Orthopedic RNs support musculoskeletal patients throughout the continuum of care and contribute to a high‑performing clinical environment. Key duties include:

  • Functioning in the Charge Nurse role as needed
  • Coordinating patient care with multidisciplinary providers
  • Supporting optimal clinical outcomes that prioritize quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness
  • Ensuring compliance with MTF standards, policies, and evidence‑based practices
  • Conducting physical exams and obtaining comprehensive health histories
  • Providing patient education, counseling, and health promotion
  • Administering medications, performing wound care, and delivering other targeted nursing interventions
  • Making patient care assignments aligned with staff competencies and scope of practice
  • Recognizing adverse signs/symptoms and responding appropriately in emergency situations
  • Communicating effectively with diverse teams, patients, and families to support care coordination
  • Arranging specialty referrals and follow‑up appointments
  • Performing nursing duties outlined in the Task Order
  • Participating in research efforts to support improved patient outcomes

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $30.44 - $41.18. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
