Job Description

Summary:

We are seeking a Multi-Disciplinary Systems Engineer to design and deploy the virtualization, storage, and compute infrastructure required for the migration and modernization of DoW data centers in Europe. This role requires a versatile engineer capable of architecting and migrating diverse systems across VMware/Broadcom virtual infrastructure, enterprise storage arrays (e.g., Dell, NetApp), Windows, and Linux platforms that support mission-critical applications. The Systems Engineer will coordinate closely with network and cybersecurity leads to ensure seamless service availability, capacity management, and security compliance during and after data center migration events.

Core Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead planning, design, and cutover strategies for multi-platform infrastructure, focusing on compute, storage, and virtualization platforms.
  • Ensure service availability, data integrity, and security during complex physical and virtual migration events.
  • Develop migration runbooks, validation plans, and contingency/rollback procedures.
  • Coordinate with network and cybersecurity teams for seamless service integration and security boundary enforcement.
  • Execute the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, enterprise storage, and hypervisors in both physical and virtual environments.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to understand business needs and requirements and provide appropriate infrastructure solutions.
  • Manages and tests backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability across Windows, Linux, and virtualized workloads.
  • Maintains detailed documentation of system configurations, infrastructure topology, procedures, and changes.
  • Creates reports on system performance, storage utilization, security incidents, and other key metrics.
  • Coordinates with other IT teams to ensure coordinated delivery of IT services.
  • Provides recommendations for system improvements based on analysis and industry best practices.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong working knowledge of hybrid data center infrastructure, particularly VMware vSphere/Broadcom virtualized environments, enterprise storage platforms (Dell, NetApp), and physical server hardware.
  • Proficient with cross-platform enterprise system administration, including fundamental Linux OS management alongside core Windows services (Active Directory, DNS).
  • Skilled in enterprise backup/restore architectures, disaster recovery replication, and high-availability clustering across diverse platforms.
  • Understanding of dependent application requirements, storage I/O profiles, and inter-service network dependencies.
  • Ability to apply DoW cybersecurity hardening standards (DISA STIGs, ACAS scanning) across multi-vendor environments (VMware, Linux, Windows, Dell/NetApp).
  • Skilled in leveraging vendor-specific automation platforms and APIs (e.g., VMware PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform) to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 5+ years experience with Data Center Solutions, Data Center Engineering, and/or Data Center Migration.

Certifications:

Recommended Professional Certifications: The candidate must possess one or more of the following certifications in addition to maintaining DoW 8570 IAT Level II compliance (e.g., Security+ CE).

  • VMWare VCP - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) (Highly Desired)
  • Dell Technologies Proven Professional (Storage focus) or NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA)
  • CompTIA Linux+, Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS), or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate
  • VMWare VCP - Cloud Foundation Administrator
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
