The Senior Principal ServiceNow Engineer serves as a senior technical authority responsible for the configuration, implementation, enhancement, and sustainment of ServiceNow solutions in a complex enterprise environment. This role requires deep practical experience across ServiceNow development, module implementation, integrations, security, and operational support. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable ServiceNow capabilities that support mission and business requirements. This position requires a senior-level engineer who remains directly involved in technical execution while also providing technical leadership for implementation efforts, guiding complex engineering decisions, establishing engineering standards and best practices, mentoring team members, and serving as a primary technical escalation point for ServiceNow-related issues.
How a Senior Principal ServiceNow Engineer will Make an Impact:
Lead hands-on configuration, implementation, enhancement, and sustainment of ServiceNow solutions in support of mission and business requirements
Provide technical leadership for complex ServiceNow implementation and enhancement efforts, including guidance on engineering standards, best practices, and technical decisions
Develop and support workflows, business rules, client scripts, UI policies, forms, and service catalog capabilities across the platform
Implement and support ITOM, ITAM, and SPM modules, including related capabilities such as Discovery, Service Mapping, Event Management, and Asset Management
Build and maintain integrations using REST, SOAP, LDAP, and SSO
Serve as a senior technical escalation point, mentor junior and mid-level team members, and support continuous improvement in ServiceNow engineering practices
Troubleshoot issues, support upgrades, maintain security controls, and develop dashboards, reports, and technical documentation
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree with focus in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
Required Experience:
6+ years of substantial hands-on ServiceNow engineering, configuration, implementation, and sustainment experience
Proven experience delivering and supporting ServiceNow capabilities in complex enterprise environments
Required Technical Skills:
Extensive hands-on experience with ServiceNow configuration, implementation, development, and support
Strong experience implementing and supporting ServiceNow ITOM, ITAM, and SPM
Proficiency in JavaScript, Glide API, and ServiceNow development tools
Experience configuring and developing business rules, client scripts, UI policies, UI actions, workflows, forms, tables, and service catalog capabilities
Experience implementing and supporting integrations using REST, SOAP, LDAP, and SSO
Develop and maintain dashboards, KPIs, reports, and analytics to support operational awareness, service performance, and decision-making
Experience with Discovery, Service Mapping, Event Management, Asset Management, and SPM/PPM-related capabilities
Experience with database management and performance optimization, preferably MariaDB is a plus
Demonstrated ability to support platform upgrades and deployments with minimal operational disruption
Required Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and functional teams
Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, initiative, and a customer-focused attitude
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills:
Experience with additional ServiceNow modules such as ITSM, CMDB, Service Catalog, Knowledge Management, and GRC
ServiceNow certifications such as Certified System Administrator (CSA), Certified Application Developer (CAD), or relevant implementation specialist certifications
Familiarity with DoD security requirements and mission support environments
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Security Clearance Level:
Active Secret clearance required
Location:
Hybrid – 3-days onsite, 2- days remote
Citizenship Required:
US Citizenship required due to the Secret clearance requirement.

The likely salary range for this position is $161,500 - $218,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
