SENIOR FIELD OPERATIONS LEAD
Location: Travel Required (Field Work Across the United States)

Employment Type: Part-Time, On-Call


Overview:
Contribute to the strategic direction of the business and support impactful mission outcomes as a Senior Field Operations Lead at GDIT. Here, you’ll enable the success of critical government missions. We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Field Operations Lead to guide and support field teams collecting water utility data in communities across the United States. This position involves long-distance travel, extended outdoor activity, and direct leadership of onsite teams. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, organization, communication skills, and adaptability. The role supports an EPA technical assistance program and requires the ability to operate effectively in dynamic, real-world field conditions.

Position Requirements:
● Minimum of 15 years of experience leading teams.
● Prior experience leading teams in outdoor or technical environments is strongly preferred.
● Experience working with water utility personnel, public works staff, or other field stakeholders is beneficial.
● Active driver’s license required.
● Ability and willingness to engage in long-distance travel on a recurring basis

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Field Leadership and Coordination:
● Lead field teams of 4–8 staff deploying to communities across the U.S. under an EPA technical assistance program.
● Provide daily direction, coordination, and motivation to ensure efficient, safe, and high‑quality data collection.
● Serve as the primary liaison between the assigned project manager and the field team, receiving trip logistics, community background information, and field data collection objectives.
● Communicate field progress, challenges, and updates to the project manager and escalate issues when appropriate.
● Problem-solve onsite to address unexpected obstacles such as route changes, weather impacts, equipment issues, or coordination needs with utility personnel.
● Maintain professional interactions with water utility personnel and adapt to local practices, expectations, and constraints.

Field Data Collection Responsibilities:
● Walk long distances for multiple consecutive days while conducting water utility data collection.
● Work in various outdoor conditions including heat, cold, humidity, and light rain.
● Perform occasional light digging with a shovel to access utility infrastructure.
● Track, manage, and safeguard equipment and supplies throughout field deployments.
● Ensure accuracy, reliability, and completeness in all field documentation.

Planning and Logistics:
● Translate the project manager’s objectives and logistical details into actionable daily plans for the field team.
● Oversee distribution, tracking, and end-of-day reconciliation of equipment and supplies.
● Adjust field strategies based on evolving conditions such as weather changes, safety considerations, shifting walking routes, or utility availability.
● Support adjustments to travel plans or daily operational schedules as needed during onsite work.
● Maintain timely communication channels to ensure issues are documented, shared, and resolved effectively.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $29,750 - $40,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
