Job Description

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Cyber Security Directorate (CSD) is leading one of the most comprehensive, mission critical cybersecurity operations in the federal government—protecting the digital infrastructure that safeguards America’s borders. This multifaceted program spans 24/7/365 Security Operations Center (SOC) monitoring, advanced threat intelligence, forensics, incident response, cloud and network security engineering, zero trust modernization, vulnerability assessment, and enterprise-wide risk and compliance activities. The IT Project Manager Junior will support teams at the forefront of national security, supporting sophisticated cyber operations that defend vital systems, enable secure mission execution, and counter rapidly evolving threats. MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

The IT Project Manager Junior coordinates cybersecurity project activities from planning through delivery. You will:

  • Develop, maintain, and update project plans, schedules, task lists, and roadmaps.
  • Assign tasks, track progress, assess risks, and ensure compliance with established project management processes and methodologies.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Support the preparation of project documentation, including charters, work breakdown structures, and status updates.
  • Track project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and performance metrics to ensure progress against the baseline plan.
  • Assist with budget, scope, and schedule monitoring, escalating issues when risks or delays arise.
  • Facilitate project meetings, capture action items, and coordinate follow‑up, helping maintain accountability across teams.
  • Work within a cybersecurity‑centric environment, supporting initiatives that span endpoint, cloud, network, and operations domains.
  • Coordinate with analysts, engineers, and operations teams to maintain project momentum across complex technical workflows.
  • Participate in cross‑functional planning activities, supporting technical teams through requirements alignment and task sequencing.
  • Preferred certifications:
    • CAPM
    • CompTIA Project+
    • Agile Fundamentals

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience supporting IT, cybersecurity, or technical project activities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership capabilities.
  • Experience with ad hoc training to junior members in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, track deliverables, and support structured PMO processes.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with IT system lifecycle processes, cybersecurity environments, or federal IT delivery.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members or assist with internal training is preferred.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $70,658 - $90,275. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
