GDIT is looking for a Cloud DevOps Team Lead to join our National Institutes of Health (NIH) CIT Hosting and Storage Services Program.
We are seeking a forward-thinking technical leader who can inspire and develop teams while ensuring the delivery of secure, reliable, and innovative cloud services and solutions. Our ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with cloud engineering and DevOps expertise, supported by experience designing, automating, and delivering solutions across AWS and Azure. This leader will provide clear direction and accountability for day-to-day operations, Agile execution, and project activities, while applying their technical understanding to guide architecture, engineering decisions, and complex customer solutions. They will foster a culture of collaboration, automation, continuous improvement, and innovation; empower team members to grow and succeed; and work closely with customers to understand their demands and guide their cloud adoption and modernization journeys. The successful candidate will balance standardization with flexibility, driving reusable cloud services while enabling tailored solutions when customer requirements demand them.
This is a HYBRID role - 3 days on customer site in Bethesda MD.
This role will require you to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and will require you to provide onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility. This investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, as well as other adjudications.
Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day oversight for your team by delegating and prioritizing task execution, resolving roadblocks, and ensuring execution is efficient and timely for the delivery of all cloud devops services.
In partnership with federal and program leadership, be a subject matter expert and oversee your team’s service catalog; to include identifying customer demands, owning and developing the technical strategy and vision, and rallying your team to turn the vision into reality.
Work closely with Project Managers/Scrum Masters to ensure transparent communications on project timelines, project execution, resource requirements, risk management, and status reporting. Occasionally step into project manager role you’re your team’s strategic projects based on need.
Drive innovation and incorporate continuous improvement activities into your team’s execution to deliver new services and new ways of working to keep pace with future customer demands.
Oversee personnel management including staff recruitment, hiring, performance management, training, and mentoring for all team members.
Provide oversight for incidents, coordinating with resolution parties and establishing effective communication between stakeholders during and after closure of the incident to include after-action reporting.
Required Qualifications:
BS/BA and 10+ years of experience, or equivalent experience, in an IT-related discipline.
Experience overseeing a portfolio of cloud or technology services and leading a technical team’s day-to-day execution, including engineering, service delivery, Agile development, and project activities.
People management experience, including recruiting, hiring, performance management, professional development, training, and mentoring a team of engineers.
Experience leading cloud engineering, DevOps, modernization, or other complex technical initiatives from planning through successful delivery.
Required Skillsets and Experience:
Broad hands-on experience and technical knowledge with AWS and/or Azure, including cloud compute, database, storage, networking, identity, security, and related platform services.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), configuration management, and automation using technologies such as Terraform and Ansible, with source code and configuration managed through Git-based development practices and platforms such as GitHub.
Experience leading a team that develops standardized, reusable cloud services, patterns, and automation that enables consistent and efficient delivery while accommodating unique customer requirements when appropriate.
Experience modernizing a team’s technology services and delivery practices to improve efficiency, accelerate delivery, enhance customer experience, and reduce manual effort through standardization, automation, and emerging technologies such as AI.
Experience applying Agile and project management practices to manage priorities and backlogs, facilitate Scrum or similar delivery processes, and drive technical initiatives through completion.
Working knowledge of ITIL principles and practices, including incident, problem, service request, change, and service level management.
Ability to analyze complex cloud architecture and engineering challenges, provide technical guidance, and lead engineers and customers through solution design and problem resolution.
Strong customer and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate cloud strategies, architectures, technical tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant AWS, Microsoft Azure, Terraform, Agile, or project management certifications.
Experience supporting cloud services within a federal government, healthcare, or similarly regulated environment.

The likely salary range for this position is $142,792 - $189,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
