Job Description

GDIT is looking for a Cloud & Hosting Infrastructure Lead to join our National Institutes of Health (NIH) CIT Hosting and Storage Services Program.

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking technology leader to provide technical and operational leadership across a broad portfolio of enterprise hosting services spanning on-premises infrastructure and public cloud. Our ideal candidate combines strong infrastructure and cloud expertise with proven leadership experience overseeing complex technology services, developing technical roadmaps, modernizing service delivery, and leading teams through significant organizational and technology change.

Location: This is a HYBRID role with 2-3 days on customer site in Bethesda MD.

This role will require you to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and will require you to provide onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility.  This investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, as well as other adjudications

Responsibilities:

  • As a senior leader within the program, you will be accountable for the technical delivery and continued evolution of hosting services, including compute, virtualization, storage, backup, database, middleware, cloud infrastructure, IaaS, PaaS, and related capabilities.

  • Provide direction and accountability to Team Leads, coordinate execution across traditionally siloed technology areas, and continuously improve how infrastructure services are designed and delivered.

  • Work closely with the Program Manager, Cybersecurity Lead, federal leadership, and other stakeholders to help establish the program’s technical direction, operating model, and culture while ensuring hosting services reliably support the application, data, and scientific missions of our customers.

  • Manage team performance for technical managers and/or Team Leads, including establishing accountability, coaching and mentoring leaders, performance management, professional development, recruiting, and leading teams through significant technology and organizational change.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA or equivalent experience in an IT-related discipline

  • 10+ years of relevant IT experience, including significant leadership responsibility within large, complex enterprise technology environments.

  • Broad technical experience across enterprise infrastructure and cloud technologies, with demonstrated knowledge of compute, operating systems, virtualization, storage, backup, databases, networking, application hosting, IaaS, PaaS, AWS and/or Azure.

  • Experience providing technical and operational leadership for a portfolio of enterprise technology services, including establishing technical direction, managing competing priorities, resolving cross-team dependencies, and maintaining accountability for service delivery.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing technology roadmaps, lifecycle strategies, modernization initiatives, and continuous improvement plans across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure or cloud services.

  • Proven experience improving technology service delivery through process analysis and techniques such as value stream mapping, identifying bottlenecks and implementing changes that reduce delivery time, streamline handoffs, increase automation, and improve customer experience.

  • People management experience of technical managers or Team Leads

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading enterprise hosting, cloud, platform engineering, or infrastructure organizations operating hybrid environments spanning on-premises data centers and AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.

  • Experience supporting application and software development organizations, with an understanding of the software development lifecycle, DevOps concepts, Agile delivery practices, and the infrastructure capabilities needed to support modern application development and delivery.

  • Experience applying modern engineering approaches—including Infrastructure as Code, self-service, automation, Agile/DevOps practices, platform engineering, and AI-enabled capabilities—to improve infrastructure operations, engineering productivity, service delivery, and customer experience.

  • Experience supporting NIH, biomedical research, life sciences, federal health, or similarly complex and regulated mission environments, with relevant cloud, infrastructure, ITIL, Agile, Lean, or technology leadership certifications.
