Job Description

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Lead oversees enterprise-wide IT operations encompassing network engineering, database administration, and systems engineering. This position is responsible for ensuring stable, secure, and efficient performance of mission-critical infrastructure while driving continuous improvement and modernization across all O&M functions.

The O&M Lead manages distributed teams located across multiple U.S. sites and serves as the primary onsite leader in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate combines strong technical leadership with exceptional customer engagement skills, a commitment to service excellence, and the ability to operate in a dynamic, mission-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead O&M teams across network engineering, systems engineering, and database administration, including personnel located at multiple sites across the U.S.
  • Drive operational excellence by championing continual service improvement, modernization, automation, and reliability enhancements.
  • Own and manage enterprise SLAs, performance metrics, and service delivery expectations; ensure all operational commitments are met or exceeded.
  • Oversee daily operational activities including monitoring, incident response, change management, patching, backups, and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinate and execute upgrades, lifecycle management, and configuration changes impacting enterprise production environments.
  • Maintain operational documentation, SOPs, runbooks, configuration baselines, and compliance records.
  • Partner closely with customer stakeholders to understand mission needs, communicate impacts, and build strong, trust-based relationships.
  • Provide senior‑level technical leadership and guidance to resolve complex issues across O&M disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance with security requirements, accreditation standards, and enterprise governance processes.
  • Effectively manage distributed team workload, staffing, scheduling, and performance.
  • Support enterprise projects, migrations, and modernization efforts that influence operational environments and service continuity.
  • Deliver clear operational reporting on system health, SLAs, incidents, risks, and improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Q or TS clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise IT operations or O&M team leadership
  • Experience supervising distributed technical teams across multiple geographic locations
  • Strong background in network operations, systems administration, or database engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and lead continual service improvement programs
  • Proven track record managing SLAs and large-scale operational commitments
  • Excellent customer-facing communication and coordination skills
  • Experience supporting mission-critical operations in high-availability environments

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $119,000 - $161,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
