GDIT is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our National Institutes of Health (NIH) CIT Hosting and Storage Services Program.
We are seeking a collaborative and technically curious cloud engineer who can help design, automate, and deliver secure, reliable, and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions across AWS and Azure. Our ideal candidate combines hands-on cloud and infrastructure experience with a strong automation mindset and an interest in solving customer challenges. As a member of our Cloud DevOps team, this engineer will contribute to the development of standardized cloud infrastructure services and reusable automation while also supporting custom solutions for customers with unique application and data hosting requirements. The successful candidate will independently deliver well-defined engineering solutions, collaborate with senior engineers on more complex designs, and work with customers and team members to translate requirements into effective cloud solutions. They will apply sound engineering practices with consideration for security, scalability, resiliency, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
Location: Remote working candidates will be considered; however the preference is for candidates to go onsite to Bethesda, MD 3 days out of the week. If you're within 60 miles of customer site, we would look for you to go onsite, as needed.
This role will require you to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and will require you to provide onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility. This investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, as well as other adjudications.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and support secure, reliable, and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions in AWS and Azure for hosting applications and data, working with customers and engineers to understand requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
Develop and enhance standardized, reusable cloud infrastructure services and automation using Terraform, Ansible, and related technologies, contributing to shared modules and enterprise code repositories.
Configure and integrate cloud compute, storage, database, identity, networking, security, monitoring, backup, and related services to support application hosting requirements.
Develop and support automation and CI/CD capabilities that streamline infrastructure provisioning and application deployments, reduce manual effort, and improve reliability and operational efficiency.
Troubleshoot infrastructure, operating system, automation, application hosting, and cloud integration issues, collaborating across engineering disciplines to drive problems through resolution.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, implementation procedures, and security and compliance artifacts necessary to support cloud services and maintain authorization.
Participate in Agile activities, technical design discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement efforts that enhance engineering practices, service delivery, and the customer experience.
Required Qualifications:
BS/BA and 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience, in an IT-related discipline.
Experience engineering and supporting cloud or enterprise infrastructure solutions within a professional IT environment.
Experience independently implementing well-defined technical solutions while collaborating with senior engineers on larger or more complex designs and initiatives.
Experience working collaboratively with technical teams, customers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
Required Skillsets and Experience:
Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure, including compute, storage, databases, networking, identity and access management, security, monitoring, and related cloud platform services.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and automation using technologies such as Terraform and Ansible, including developing or modifying reusable modules and working within shared, Git-managed codebases.
Working knowledge of Windows and Linux systems administration and supporting technologies, including patching, monitoring, certificate management, data protection, backup, and application hosting.
Working knowledge of cloud networking and security concepts, including virtual networks/VPCs, load balancing, VPNs, firewalls, IAM/RBAC, encryption, and secure connectivity.
Experience with CI/CD and scripting or automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies to automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and operational activities.
Experience using cloud-native monitoring and logging capabilities to troubleshoot issues spanning cloud infrastructure, operating systems, networking, automation, and application hosting.
Strong communication, collaboration, and analytical skills, with experience working within Agile and DevOps practices and the ability to communicate technical solutions, issues, and recommendations to customers and other engineers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting application hosting architectures, cloud migrations, or custom cloud solutions and working directly with customers to understand and implement their technical requirements.
Experience with cloud-native, containerized, or data-intensive workloads and technologies supporting modern application deployment and operations.
Relevant AWS, Microsoft Azure, Terraform, DevOps, or infrastructure certifications, and experience supporting technology solutions within federal government, healthcare, life sciences, or similarly regulated environments.
