JOB DESCRIPTION

The Event Designer will support the DOW Program on-site at MacDill AFB.

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As an Event Designer you will provide expert-level knowledge of the Decision Support Center Information Technology systems and software applications in order to facilitate the integration of hosted events planned by the Decision Support Center staff and guest organizations. Your work will maximize the exchange of information and ideas and foster structured discussion among key leaders and decision-makers.

JOB DUTIES

  • Conduct strategic, organizational, and programmatic analysis in support of the USSOCOM mission.
  • Develop senior-level seminars and lead communication, facilitation, and working groups using analytical design workshops.
  • Lead the design, development, execution, and assessment of executive-level seminars exploring complex issues with visualization software systems.
  • Lead and guide networks of subject matter experts using structured analytical techniques including design thinking, critical, creative, and visual thinking.
  • Lead working groups using design thinking to conceptualize complex problems from multiple perspectives.
  • Lead after‑action sessions with sponsors and internal teams to identify best practices and future requirements.
  • Conduct and lead working groups to define problems, establish objectives, and determine desired end-states.
  • Assist with developing events requiring critical and creative approaches to presenting information to senior leaders.
  • Educate participants and senior leaders on the value of qualitative and quantitative methods to support structured discourse.
  • Communicate with senior leaders to visualize and understand complex issues.
  • Facilitate creation of visual storyboard vignettes using advanced visualization systems.
  • Coordinate and train briefers during action officer week to support effective communication and use of Wargame Center technology.
  • Synchronize qualitative workshop data with technical visualizations.
  • Develop working groups using qualitative theories including Systems Thinking, Design Thinking, Grounded Theory, Content Analysis, and Nudge.
  • Work independently to assist sponsors in crafting scenarios, case studies, and vignettes to enhance IT-focused presentations.
  • Conduct data collection during seminars and convert raw information into qualitative insights.
  • Advise planners using best practices and qualitative research before working groups form.
  • Facilitate working groups and support execution and assessment of executive seminars.
  • Assist graphic designers to ensure storyboards accurately reflect working group outputs.
  • Present results, findings, and recommendations to senior leaders (GO/FO/SES).
  • Log and manage historical products from design workshops to support cradle‑to‑grave wargame documentation.
  • Advise leadership on best practices within behavioral economics, design thinking, prospect theory, and other qualitative fields.
  • Contribute to authorship, editing, and publishing of operational summaries, project descriptions, trip reports, and related documentation.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • 4 years of experience in planning or analysis in military-related fields.
  • 5 years of military operations, plans, or resourcing experience.
  • 6 years of experience supporting DoD problem‑solving including PPBS, JCIDS, or MDAPS.
  • 3 years leading study teams or planning teams analyzing complex problems.
  • 3 years leading working groups in deep problem framing and senior‑leader communication.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Clearance: Top Secret/SCI
  • Experience: Multiple years of relevant military planning, analysis, facilitation, and executive seminar experience.
  • Education: Graduate of in‑residence Staff College (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, or equivalent).
  • Certifications: In‑residence accredited Design Thinking, Operational Design, or Facilitator course.
  • Role Requirements: Hybrid environment; onsite expectations may vary by mission.
  • Due to US Government Contract Requirements, only US Citizens are eligible for this role.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $119,000 - $161,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
