Cloud Architect

Opportunity for an experienced Cloud Architect to join an IT Operations Program for a federal government customer. We are seeking an experienced Cloud Architect to join a mission-critical IT operations program supporting a federal government customer. In this role, you will lead efforts to migrate applications and services to cloud-based platforms, which involves modernizing legacy systems and supporting the deployment of new applications and infrastructure in a cost-efficient, secure, and flexible manner. As a Cloud Architect, you will lead the design, migration, and optimization of cloud-based data, analytics, AI/ML, and reporting capabilities to modernize CBP’s intelligence-driven targeting and risk assessment platforms. Your role will require working with diverse teams to oversee complex projects that drive impactful mission outcomes for our customers as a Cloud Architect.

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As a Cloud Architect, your expertise will contribute to identifying and mitigating threats and other illicit activities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and maintain secure, scalable, and cost‑efficient cloud architectures for CBP’s data warehouse, analytics, and AI/ML platforms, including migration from on‑premises systems.
  • Define cloud standards, data strategies, and modern pipelines supporting structured and unstructured data, real‑time processing, and advanced analytics.
  • Ensure compliance with DHS, FedRAMP, Zero Trust, and federal security requirements, including documentation, encryption, monitoring, and governance.
  • Partner with data, BI, AI/ML, and cybersecurity teams to optimize performance, automation, and cloud‑native operations.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to stakeholders, participate in Agile and architectural governance, and communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Design, develop, and maintain a scalable, secure, cost-efficient cloud architecture to support CBP’s enterprise data warehouse, reporting tools, AI/ML models, and analytical workflows.
  • Lead the migration of existing on premises BI, data warehousing, and AI platforms into a cloud-based environment (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government).
  • Partner with data modelers, data scientists, BI developers, and cyber teams to ensure seamless migration and performance optimization.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to government stakeholders, analysts, and engineering teams on cloud strategy, emerging technologies, and modernization opportunities.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical reviews, roadmap development, and architectural governance processes.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiences, including CBP leadership.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations or briefings on leadership as needed.
  • Demonstrating strong time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in cloud project management or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field.
  • Designs and defines cloud solutions architecture for new or existing Cloud systems and services that meet Cybersecurity requirements.
  • Provides business strategy, solution development and technical guidance to develop business and market solutions that align with cloud service offerings from the cloud service provider.
  • Deep knowledge of data warehouse architecture, ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, analytics, and AI/ML integration.
  • Technical expertise in modern frameworks like microservices, APIs, and containerized solutions.
  • Experience with cloud-based reporting, AI, and machine learning capabilities.
  • Must be a US citizen able to obtain DHS Public Trust clearance and successfully pass CBP Background Investigation (BI) and attain EOD to start work. Top Secret clearance preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Relevant certifications in cloud platforms/solutions such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent.
  • Previous CBP OIT support experience and mission/ environment understanding is highly desired (preference to people with active CBP BI and a CBP badge).
  • Experience aligning cloud migration strategies with federal data consolidation initiatives.
  • Strong proficiency in capacity planning, performance optimization, and lifecycle maintenance of cloud resources.
  • Experience with AI/ML operationalization, container orchestration (Kubernetes), or real-time streaming analytics.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Bicep), and CI/CD processes.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments supporting analytics or intelligence-driven missions.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $142,792 - $184,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
