TECHNICAL EDITOR PRINCIPAL

Oversee complex programs that drive impactful mission outcomes for our customers as a Technical Editor Principal . Here, you’ll see the bigger picture on mission initiatives and where your program management career can go at GDIT.

Seize your opportunity to make a personal impact supporting the Case Management Modernization (CMM) Program.  The CMM program is an initiative to support the Administrative Office of the US Courts (AO) in developing a modern cloud-based solution to support all 204+ federal courts across the United States.

The Senior Technical Writer will work as part of the CMM Application Development team to modernize case management capabilities, improve the user experience, reduce administrative overhead, and position the Judiciary for more responsive and cost-effective IT services over the long term.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collecting and organizing information required for preparation of user’s manuals, training materials, installation guides, and reports at a complex level.
  • Researching and learning the assigned system.
  • Participates in the writing, design, and development of marketing brochures, advertisements, news releases, feature articles, conference programs and proceedings, public relations announcements, newsletters, and other materials.
  • Designing, developing, producing, maintaining, and managing client web sites as assigned.
  • Creating multi-media presentation materials, including slides.
  • Preparing operation and maintenance manuals and technical publications.
  • Gathering technical information, preparing written text basic projects, and helping coordinate layout and manual organization.
  • Researching available development/engineering information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications.
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading materials for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instructional material, catalogs, technical publications, and software and hardware documentation provided by technical personnel.
  • Arranging for word processing, duplication, and distribution of material.
     

TECHNICAL AND CREATIVE

  • Advanced experience specifically writing content for online help documentation, instruction materials, and user guides and manuals.
  • Experience developing and implementing content using responsive design principles and technological practices.
  • Experience with documentation tools such as: Confluence, SharePoint, RoboHelp, MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, Lucidchart, Visio, Draw.io, SiteImprove, Axe, Wave.
  • Ability to quickly ascertain and understand complex applications, diagrams, user requirements, and designs with minimal assistance.
  • Preferred: Technical proficiency, and practical knowledge in the use and application of HTML5 and cascading style sheets (CSS).

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bring your program management expertise along with a drive for innovation to GDIT. The Technical Editor Principal must have:

  • 8+ years directly related experience in the research, preparation, and writing of technical and marketing materials.
  • Experience working in and Agile Scrum environment writing technical documentation for the software product, application, and product releases.
  • Experience in understanding and communicating all technical aspects of a software product to both highly technical and non-technical users.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of technical research, writing, and editing as well as word-processing, desk-top publishing, and web applications and computer equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Excellent presentation and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation with the ability to independently manage, prioritize multiple tasks, and identify and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Consultant mindset with the ability to work with high level customer stakeholders and build excellent customer relationships.
  • Experience identifying and applying industry tools, solutions, methods best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills with the ability to formulate and communicate recommendations for improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a team.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $96,569 - $130,651. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
