Join General Dynamics IT and be a part of a team that solve some of the world's most complex technical challenges. We are seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer to build infrastructure for the USSF Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI) in Colorado Springs, CO.

NOTE: This is a proposal position and considered a Key Personnel (KP) role on the program. Award is expected in Summer 2026.

Position Summary:

The Lead Cloud Engineer for USSF OTTI serves as the senior cloud and platform engineering authority responsible for architecting, implementing, securing, and operating the hybrid cloud, edge, and platform infrastructure supporting the U.S. Space Force Operational Test and Training Infrastructure. This role leads design and delivery of resilient, scalable, and secure cloud-native environments that enable distributed digital test, synthetic training, simulation, and mission engineering capabilities across the OTTI ecosystem. 

The Lead Cloud Engineer partners with the Chief Engineer and program leadership to define cloud strategy, implement platform engineering best practices, and ensure the OTTI infrastructure platform meets mission, security, and performance requirements. 

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Architecture & Platform Engineering: 

  • Design and maintain OTTI hybrid/multi-cloud and edge infrastructure architectures supporting distributed operational test and training environments.  
  • Define cloud reference architectures, platform standards, and engineering patterns for OTTI cloud and edge deployments.  
  • Lead architecture and implementation of container/Kubernetes-based platform services supporting mission applications and synthetic environments.  
  • Ensure infrastructure designs support scalability, resiliency, portability, and mission continuity.  

Infrastructure Automation & DevSecOps Integration: 

  • Lead development and implementation of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and platform automation frameworks.  
  • Integrate cloud platform capabilities with OTTI DevSecOps / CI-CD pipelines.  
  • Enable automated provisioning, patching, upgrades, and environment lifecycle management.  
  • Promote reusable platform services and self-service infrastructure capabilities.

  

Security / Compliance Engineering:

  • Architect secure cloud/platform solutions aligned with:  
    • DoD RMF / ATO / Continuous ATO  
    • Zero Trust Architecture  
    • IL5 / IL6 / Classified Cloud Requirements  
    • STIG / Security Baseline Compliance  
  • Implement security automation, monitoring, logging, and policy-as-code controls.  
  • Support accreditation and security assessment activities. 

Distributed / Edge Infrastructure Enablement:

  • Design and support edge/disconnected infrastructure for:  
  • Remote training/test nodes  
  • Tactical/distributed compute locations  
  • Air-gapped or intermittently connected environments  
  • Ensure synchronization, resilience, and sustainment across distributed OTTI infrastructure nodes.  

Operations / Reliability Engineering: 

  • Establish monitoring, observability, performance, and reliability standards for OTTI infrastructure.  
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of platform/infrastructure issues.  
  • Define and implement disaster recovery, backup, and high-availability strategies.

  

Technical Leadership: 

  • Serve as cloud/platform SME to Government stakeholders, Chief Engineer, and Program Leadership.  
  • Mentor cloud engineers, platform engineers, and DevSecOps personnel.  
  • Participate in architecture reviews, technical planning, and roadmap development.  
  • Evaluate emerging cloud/platform technologies for mission applicability.  

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).  
  • 10+ years of progressive IT/cloud engineering experience.  
  • 5+ years leading enterprise or mission cloud/platform engineering teams.  
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating hybrid/multi-cloud architectures.  
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes/container orchestration platforms.  
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code and automation frameworks.  
  • Experience with secure/classified/regulated cloud environments.  
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility

Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting USSF, SSC, STARCOM, SpOC, or related DoD/IC organizations.  
  • Experience with distributed edge/tactical/disconnected compute environments.  
  • Familiarity with:  
    • AWS/Azure/OCI/GovCloud/Private Cloud  
    • Kubernetes / OpenShift / Rancher / Tanzu  
    • Terraform / Ansible / Helm / GitOps  
    • DevSecOps / GitLab / CI-CD Toolchains  
    • Zero Trust / RMF / Continuous ATO  
    • Cross Domain / Secure Data Transport Architectures  
    • Relevant certifications preferred:  
    • AWS/Azure/Google/OCI Architect  
    • CKA/CKAD/CKS  
    • Security+/CISSP  
    • Terraform / Kubernetes / Cloud Security Certifications

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $169,604 - $229,464. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
