MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT

As the Network Services Operations Technical Lead, you will play a crucial role in providing senior-level leadership and oversight of enterprise network operations across federal infrastructure environments. Responsibilities include managing the full lifecycle of network services and operations, including planning, design, implementation, performance monitoring, incident response coordination, and service continuity. The Network Services Operations Technical Lead shall perform the following tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Direct the engineering and operational execution of enterprise network services across federal environments, driving modernization of routing, switching, wireless, remote access, and cloud‑connected architectures.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day network operations by directing teams responsible for LAN/WAN, SD‑WAN orchestration, wireless infrastructure, remote access platforms, transport circuits, and multi‑cloud connectivity.
  • Set and manage technical performance baselines by analyzing SLA adherence, network telemetry, KPIs, capacity metrics, and reliability indicators to maintain optimal service performance.
  • Direct incident response and root‑cause analysis workflows, authorizing containment, recovery, and corrective engineering actions to restore and stabilize services.
  • Drive execution of network engineering roadmaps by developing detailed technical schedules, identifying delivery risks, sequencing critical path activities, and allocating engineering resources.
  • Define technical requirements and evaluation criteria for network service acquisitions, contributing engineering expertise during market research, vendor assessments, and solution reviews.
  • Deliver operational assessments, architectural impacts, and modernization updates to senior federal leadership, articulating operational readiness, system health, and mission alignment.
  • Enforce compliance with federal cybersecurity and network standards—such as FISMA controls, TIC 3.0 architectures, and Zero Trust requirements—by integrating them into operational workflows and engineering decisions.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Bring your engineering expertise along with a drive for innovation to GDIT. The Network Services Operations Technical Lead must have:

● Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related field is required. (A Master’s degree is preferred in a related field and may substitute for 3 years of experience.)

● Required Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) or a project management degree from an accredited university.
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), In lieu of CCIE, a minimum of 8+ years of hands-on experience coupled with a current Cisco CCNP may be substituted.

●Desired Certifications:

  • ITIL v4 Foundations Certification – Highly Desired
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+
  • AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional

● Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience managing large-scale enterprise IT and network infrastructure projects or operations.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading network services or operations, including experience managing technical staff, subcontractors and multiple task orders  in a federal contracting environment.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing hybrid network architectures, including traditional data center and cloud-based (AWS, Azure, etc.) connectivity.
  • Proven experience in IT operations management, including problem management, change control, and continuous service improvement.
  • Over 10 years of Enterprise IT or technology-related experience, including 5 years on large government or commercial contracts.
  • At least 5 years of team leadership in enterprise O&M for the federal government.
  • 5+ years as a Program Manager overseeing multiple projects simultaneously supporting IT environment with over 11,000 end-users across 600+ sites.
  • Experienced in senior-level client interface across multiple organizations.
  • Collaboration experience with customer and contractor personnel on task plans and deliverables
  • Proven leadership of large teams (50+ members).

● Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to interface with senior federal leadership.
  • Expert knowledge of networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VLANs, IPsec, etc.).
  • Experience with network architecture design and operations, including cloud interconnects, SD-WAN, VPN, and firewall management.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems, develop solutions, and manage implementation plans across multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Skilled in performance monitoring, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement strategies.
  • Understanding of IT service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL) and project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, PMBOK).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, and exceptional customer service.
  • Skilled in managing multiple projects and complex IT activities to align with organizational goals.
  • Proficient in Waterfall and Agile methodologies; experienced in agile project implementation and team management in a federal environment.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and able to prioritize workload based on customer needs.
  • Skilled in managing contract IT support teams with diverse skills.
  • Experienced in senior-level client interface across multiple organizations.
  • Collaboration experience with customer and contractor personnel on task plans and deliverables.
  • Proficient in formulating and overseeing project management plans and documents and supporting federal managers in project coordination.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

● Security clearance level: The selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet requirements to pass a NACI/MBI investigation. 

● Timeline Statement: This is a contingent position expected to begin after 1 November 2026.

● Location: Washington, DC Metro Area. Travel outside the area up to 20%.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $128,039 - $173,229. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
