Job Description

Opportunity for an experienced Cloud Project Manager to join an IT Operations Program for a federal government customer. We are seeking an experienced Cloud Project manager to join a mission-critical IT operations program supporting a federal government customer. In this role, you will lead efforts to migrate applications and services to cloud-based platforms, which involves modernizing legacy systems and supporting the deployment of new applications and infrastructure in a cost-efficient, secure, and flexible manner. The candidate will directly contribute to effort aligning migration goals with organizational strategies such as the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI), enterprise service delivery models, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) OIT target/cloud architecture. As a Cloud Project Manager, your expertise will be instrumental in managing complex projects and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Your role will require working with diverse teams to oversee complex projects that drive impactful mission outcomes for our customers as a Cloud Project Manager.

The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in enabling a scalable, efficient, and advanced cloud environment that improves data management capabilities, embraces innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), and supports organizational agility. As part of an agile team, you will:

  • Oversee the migration of on-premises data warehouses, reporting systems, AI models, and data modeling infrastructure to the cloud.
  • Develop strategies and migration roadmaps that prioritize system scalability, cost-effectiveness, and enhanced security.
  • Prepare comprehensive inventories of applications, users, and infrastructure to determine migration suitability.
  • Conduct application mapping and analyzing security, privacy, workflow, and lifecycle considerations to support seamless transitions.
  • Support real-time reporting, advanced analytics, and AI/ML capabilities in the cloud environment.
  • Other duties as assigned

As a Cloud Project Manager, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the CBP mission. Your expertise will contribute to identifying and mitigating threats and other illicit activities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop cloud solutions that support modern digital environments such as microservices, container strategies, and API-driven frameworks.
  • Build environments accessible through mobile platforms and innovative industry paradigms.
  • Establish operational and container management strategies for deploying scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintain essential cloud elements, including operating systems, DNS, servers, storage, databases, applications, and networking.
  • Optimize resources for efficiency using advanced cloud-native technologies, improving performance, elasticity, and availability.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance requirements and enforce robust security standards.
  • Offer expert guidance and strategies for maintaining cloud-based environments across their entire lifecycle, from development and testing to production.
  • Provide recommendations for employing open standards like Open Virtualization Format (OVF), Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI), and Open Cloud Computing Interface (OCCI).
  • Deliver capacity planning solutions to optimize bandwidth, storage, resource usage, and software licensing post-migration.
  • Incorporate redundancy and data recovery strategies, enabling the recovery of critical data within specified recovery time objectives.
  • Develop testing plans for cloud migration, including rollback capabilities.
  • Implement tools and solutions to regularly monitor performance and operational efficiencies of cloud resources.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations or briefings on leadership as needed.
  • Demonstrating strong time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in cloud project management or a related field.
  • Proven experience in application and infrastructure migration to commercial cloud environments.
  • Strong background in developing scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions to support enterprise-wide adoption.
  • In-depth understanding of open standards for cloud computing and their applicability to various services and architectures.
  • Technical expertise in modern frameworks like microservices, APIs, and containerized solutions.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based reporting, AI, and machine learning capabilities.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, including federal agencies, intelligence entities, or operational units.
  • Must be a US citizen able to obtain DHS Public Trust clearance and successfully pass CBP Background Investigation (BI) and attain EOD to start work.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud platforms/solutions are desirable.
  • Previous CBP OIT support experience and mission/ environment understanding is highly desired (preference to people with active CBP BI and a CBP badge).
  • Experience aligning cloud migration strategies with federal data consolidation initiatives.
  • Strong proficiency in capacity planning, performance optimization, and lifecycle maintenance of cloud resources.
  • Expertise in implementing business continuity and disaster recovery strategies.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $124,093 - $149,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
