Job Description

GDIT is seeking an IT Modernization Lead to drive the design, integration, and execution of enterprise IT modernization initiatives across mission-critical environments. This role performs advanced, non-routine technical leadership functions requiring independent judgment, broad technical authority, and accountability for delivering secure, scalable, and resilient solutions across network, system, and cybersecurity domains.

The IT Modernization Lead serves as the senior technical integrator and engineering authority across all disciplines, leading and coordinating System Architects, Network Engineers, Cybersecurity personnel, and Operations teams to deliver cohesive, mission-aligned solutions. This role maintains direct hands-on technical responsibility while establishing architectural direction, enforcing standards, and ensuring integration across multi-domain, multi-enclave, and coalition environments.

This position also serves as the senior cybersecurity integration lead, ensuring that security is embedded across all modernization efforts and that enterprise solutions align with Zero Trust principles, regulatory requirements, and operational mission needs.

Responsibilities:

Modernization & Technical Leadership:

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of enterprise IT modernization initiatives across network, system, cloud, and cybersecurity domains
  • Serve as the senior technical authority across all engineering functions, ensuring integration of network, compute, storage, and security architectures
  • Establish and enforce enterprise architecture standards, engineering processes, and technical governance across the program
  • Provide hands-on leadership in solution design, system integration, and operational transition of modernized capabilities
  • Lead design and implementation of resilient, scalable architectures supporting high availability, fault tolerance, and mission continuity
  • Drive adoption of Zero Trust architecture and secure-by-design principles across all technical implementations
  • Integrate Mission Partner Environment (MPE) and coalition capabilities, ensuring interoperability across multi-national and multi-security domain environments

Network Architecture & CCIE-Level Technical Oversight:

  • Provide expert-level design and oversight of enterprise network architectures, including core routing, switching, transport, and edge connectivity
  • Lead development and optimization of complex LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, and hybrid cloud network environments supporting mission operations
  • Architect and oversee routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), traffic engineering, segmentation, and network convergence strategies
  • Ensure high-performance, low-latency, and resilient network transport across geographically dispersed and contested environments
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex network issues impacting mission-critical services
  • Oversee integration of network security controls including firewalls, VPNs, encryption (e.g., TACLANE), and secure transport mechanisms
  • Guide implementation of network segmentation, micro-segmentation, and secure enclave design aligned to Zero Trust and multi-domain requirements

Cybersecurity Leadership & Integration:

  • Lead and oversee technical security assessment activities across the enterprise, ensuring identification of vulnerabilities, non-compliance, and systemic risks
  • Establish and enforce cybersecurity design standards and ensure integration of security requirements across all engineering disciplines
  • Provide leadership in validating system security requirements, architectures, and designs, ensuring alignment with enterprise security policies and mission needs
  • Oversee the design and integration of Information Assurance (IA) and cybersecurity capabilities across networking, computing, and enclave environments, including multi-enclave and multi-classification systems
  • Ensure cybersecurity is embedded throughout the system lifecycle, from architecture through deployment and sustainment
  • Guide architects and engineers in implementing appropriate security controls and capabilities to ensure consistent application of enterprise security policy
  • Lead development and maturation of enterprise security architecture, including Zero Trust and cross-domain solutions
  • Establish and enforce trusted relationships among external systems, partner networks, and integrated architectures
  • Oversee risk management activities, ensuring threats and vulnerabilities are identified, assessed, and mitigated throughout the program lifecycle
  • Provide leadership support for RMF, ATO, continuous monitoring, and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to DoW STIGs and cybersecurity frameworks
  • Contribute to security planning, risk analysis, certification, and awareness efforts across system and network operations

Service Delivery & Operational Integration:

  • Ensure modernization solutions are aligned with ITIL 4 practices, including service level management, incident response, problem management, and continual improvement
  • Drive integration of modernized capabilities into operational environments, ensuring sustainment, monitoring, and lifecycle management
  • Collaborate with Service Delivery and Operations leadership to ensure solutions meet operational performance requirements and mission needs
  • Establish metrics and reporting frameworks aligned to SLAs, KPIs, and mission outcomes

Leadership & Team Integration:

  • Lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and technical staff across all program areas
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions across network, systems, cybersecurity, and operations domains
  • Provide input to performance evaluations, tasking, and workforce development planning
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with mission execution

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience (or 11 years of experience without a degree)
  • Top Secret security clearance
  • Certification: CISSP
  • Extensive experience leading enterprise IT modernization efforts across network, system, and cybersecurity domains
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing complex network architectures at an enterprise scale
  • Expert-level knowledge of routing, switching, and network design principles consistent with CCIE-level capability
  • Strong experience integrating cybersecurity into enterprise architectures and system design
  • Deep knowledge of RMF, ATO processes, continuous monitoring, and DoW cybersecurity frameworks
  • Knowledge of DoW STIGs, Zero Trust architecture, and multi-security domain service delivery
  • Experience operating within multi-enclave and multi-classification environments
  • Proven ability to lead and integrate cross-functional engineering teams

Desired Skills:

  • CCIE certification or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting Mission Partner Environment (MPE) or coalition operations
  • Knowledge of Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) technologies
  • Experience with cloud and hybrid architectures (AWS, Azure, GovCloud)
  • Familiarity with ITIL 4 practices and enterprise ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow)
  • Experience supporting operational command and control (C2) or CJADC2 initiatives
  • Strong executive communication skills with ability to engage senior leadership and technical teams
