Job Description

CYBERSECURITY ANALYST ASSOCIATE (Part-Time)

Our people are our business. We pride ourselves on the work our innovators do to support and secure some of the most complex computing and research projects across the world. The Alabama Supercomputer Authority (ASA) team in Huntsville is looking for a Cybersecurity Analyst Associate to join our mission in securing state-wide high-performance computing (HPC) and the statewide education network infrastructure.

How You'll Make this Opportunity Your Own

Our Cybersecurity Analyst Associate at ASA will help ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of one of the most powerful computing environments in the state. You will work side-by-side with our environment team to understand the principles, methods, and tools for evaluating information systems security features against a set of specified requirements. You will have the opportunity to develop consulting skills, gather and research data, and contribute to the creation of deliverables that protect our high-performance research clusters and statewide education network infrastructure.

Task you will be responsible for:
  • Engage with HPC Security: Assist in protecting high-value compute nodes by learning how to manage encryption, secure access, and maintain the integrity of supercomputing fabrics.
  • Engage with Systems Security: Assist in protecting the systems supporting the program operations by learning how to review scans, identify vulnerabilities, recommend remediations, and document the environment for security assessments.
  • Support SOC Efforts: Work side-by-side with SOC analysts to monitor logs, identify anomalies, and learn how to manage Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) using SIEM tools.
  • Research & Propose Solutions: Collaborate with a team of peers to research and propose solutions to current cybersecurity challenges, such as vulnerability management and automated patch tracking.
  • Interact with Program Leaders: Gain exposure to ASA program leadership and participate in mentoring circles led by early career champions.
What You'll Need to Deliver Your Best Every Day
  • Nimble Mindset: A genuine intellectual curiosity and the ability to identify and solve complex problems related to rapidly changing technology.
  • Technical Communication: Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and security solutions to both peers and senior engineers.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Experience working in a team environment to promote data integrity and system security.
  • Cybersecurity Interest: Intuitiveness regarding the methods used for evaluating system security features and ensuring compliance with established policies.
The Must-Haves
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Cyber Security, or other technical fields.
  • Basic level Linux or Windows administration experience
  • Cyber Security educational or work experience
What You Offer as a Stand-Out Candidate
  • Possess or pursuing a certification in the field of cyber security (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CEH, or Information Assurance, AWS).
  • Basic knowledge of the hardware and software used in High-Performance Computing (HPC) or enterprise data centers.
  • Basic understanding of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) or Vulnerability Management (scanning and patching).
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills and a desire to learn how security policies are implemented at scale.
