Company will use new hub to accelerate development of advanced technology solutions for intelligence and defense missions
FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) announced today the opening of a new Mission Emerge Center in Springfield, Virginia, to accelerate the development of advanced technology solutions for intelligence and defense missions.
“Advancements in artificial intelligence, drones and cyber have fundamentally reshaped our national security missions and our battlespace and intelligence operations,” said Amy Gilliland, GDIT’s president. “Our investment in the Mission Emerge Center reflects our continued commitment to push boundaries and to enable our teams to transform emerging technologies into mission-ready solutions at speed and scale.”
At this approximately 5,200-square-foot-facility, GDIT will partner with customers, commercial technology companies and other General Dynamics businesses to rapidly build, test and validate solutions in cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence enabled mission analysis, tactical edge capabilities, AI-accelerated software development, full spectrum cyber, high-performance computing and optimized sensor processing capabilities. The Mission Emerge Center will also expand GDIT’s DeepSky lab, which allows teams around the world to collaborate remotely in real-time to develop new capabilities and solutions securely.
In addition, the company will use this space to demonstrate new innovations to customers. Examples include:
- Motion GEOINT: A capability that integrates multiple intelligence sources to support the detection of moving targets such as vehicles and objects in real time to enhance situational awareness. This solution can be applied to missions anywhere where full motion video is used, such as border or edge environments.
- GeoInsight Mission Planning: A solution that leverages large language models to ingest geospatial data and deliver streamlined analysis so operators can make informed decisions rapidly during mission operations, such as disaster response.
- 3D Augmented Reality Visualization: A wearable device that leverages augmented reality to deliver a detailed immersive mission environment to enhance situational awareness, mission-readiness and decision-making for warfighters, analysts and operators.
GDIT will also co-develop solutions with other General Dynamics business units at this facility. For example, the company partnered with Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. to develop a solution to process overhead imagery from sensors mounted on their aircraft for specific intelligence missions.
The Mission Emerge Center is the latest investment in GDIT’s expansion of research and development labs across the country and is a key part of the company’s Technology Investment Strategy to advance government missions and develop tactical edge capabilities. GDIT has already deployed solutions in multiple exercises, including an advanced AI and cloud solution at Cyber Fortress 2025 to protect critical infrastructure from aerial threats and a cloud-in-a-box solution at Mobility Guardian 2025 in Guam to collaborate and run applications in a disconnected environment. In the intelligence and homeland security sectors, the company has implemented edge solutions to support global intelligence analysis and border protection.
