America’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) confront some of the toughest and most complex national defense missions. As such, their readiness, resilience and overall health is critical.

GDIT Vice President Dan Creedican recently sat down with Joe McMahon, Senior Director of Mission Software and Betsy Myhre, Program Director within our Federal Health business, to talk about the SOF mission and how data, artificial intelligence, edge capability and new ways of thinking about military health are all impacting today’s SOF.

“Special operations forces need to move at tempo with innovative technologies ready at a moment’s notice to execute the mission,” McMahon observed. “The global threat environment is changing and it’s essential to be prepared for this new environment, understand what the needs are from a logistics, data and AI perspective, and to prosecute missions that are encompassing of all of this.”

He continued, “Recent advances in cloud computing, storage and compute power – alongside the advances in AI – have all led to decision makers being able to make decisions at a faster pace, and that is critical to their missions. Then, you think about the edge; we at GDIT have several programs where we’ve leveraged our advances in AI and put them on edge devices to advance that mission.”

Myhre agreed, noting that “true warfighter performance today requires a holistic view of the operator, integrating the physical, psychological, cognitive, their families, and the social and spiritual domains. It’s no longer just about fitness; it’s about building resilience, adaptability and human performance across all of these areas to meet the unpredictable challenges of modern warfare.”

It was a wide-ranging and informative discussion from two experts who have committed their careers and their energies to the SOF mission. Watch the full video above.
