FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), announced today a strategic partnership within the OpenAI Partner Network to deliver secure, mission-focused artificial intelligence capabilities across the U.S. government.
Federal agencies are under increasing pressure to upgrade aging systems, improve public services and strengthen security. Through this collaboration, GDIT will combine its mission and integration expertise with OpenAI’s cutting-edge models to modernize existing infrastructure, unlock new value from data and enhance mission outcomes. The partnership will initially focus on three priority areas:
- Accelerated Public Sector AI Adoption
GDIT will apply the latest OpenAI frontier models, like GPT-5.6, to deploy advanced AI agents that help federal customers automate high volume routine workflows such as IT service desk operations, process complex multi agency case workloads and conduct large scale data analysis. This will allow agencies to move beyond small pilots and adopt AI at scale.
- Secure AI-Enabled Software Development
GDIT will deploy Codex – OpenAI’s AI coding agent – in secure federal environments, enabling the safe review, testing and modernization of applications. GDIT will also use Codex to enable agencies to accelerate system upgrades that rely on older codebases such as COBOL and Fortran.
- Integration and System Modernization Across Federal Government
GDIT will connect agencies’ existing systems with OpenAI models to ensure seamless performance and interoperability across complex federal environments. These integrations protect personal information, keep data sharing controlled, and support AI adoption that aligns with federal compliance requirements and the operation of sensitive government systems.
