Job Description

Monitor and support the daily operations of data center systems, including servers, networks, and facility infrastructure. Perform routine system checks, escalate hardware or software alerts, and ensure uptime and availability. Maintain accurate logs, assist with incident response, and follow standard operating procedures to support 24/7 data center operations.

Daily duties Include:

  • Provide support and assistance in monitoring computer operations platforms for the EPA National Computer Center.
  • Assist users/groups such as Storage Management, High Performance Computing (HPC), Unix, Windows and VM Ware with incident reporting and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Provide support for the EPA call center afterhours and make tickets for users as needed.
  • Monitor any incoming alerts for NSOC devices. Write up tickets and notify the on-call personnel.
  • Escort vendors and technicians when needed for repairs.
  • Do basic troubleshooting for groups. Operators will restart servers, check for power, and plug or unplug cords upon request.
  • Monitor and test the EPA VPN for end users and alert groups as needed for support.
  • Maintain the NCC degausser and run monthly tests to make sure it is working as intended.
  • Document events as they happen throughout the different shifts
  • Check in and out visitors to the computer room with the paper sign in log.
  • Update the visitor logs (escorted and unescorted) online each day from the paper log.
  • At the end of each month, print all online visitor logs and add them to that month’s paper visitor logs.  Then send email to EPA for them to sign off on the logs.
  • Order supplies for DPSS and Operations as needed.
  • Accept and process deliveries that come into the computer room from EPA warehouse
  • Send out agency wide alerts when requested for system issues and outages.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED and 1+ years of experience or equivalent years of experience.
  • Must be able to work weekend shift every third weekend. Weekend shift hours include 2 shifts: one Saturday shift & one Sunday shift with working hours (12 noon – Midnight) or (Midnight – 12 noon) each day.
  • Intermediate experience working with Microsoft products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to obtain a Full FBI background investigation clearance
  • Able to work in a team or solo environment
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 focusing on Word and Excel

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $24.65 - $33.35. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
