Job Description

GDIT is seeking a Mid-Level Data Engineer to join the team focused on Command and Control (C2) systems supporting USAREUR-AF. You will contribute to the modernization of C2 systems by designing and maintaining data pipelines, ensuring reliable data availability, and enhancing the integration of mission-critical systems across operational environments. This role will directly support USAREUR-AF missions through the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance data systems that drive decision-making in real-time operations.

HOW A DATA ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Design, build, and optimize data pipelines that integrate with USAREUR-AF Command and Control (C2) systems, including sensors, platforms, and other operational technologies.
  • Work alongside C2 system engineers and mission planners to ensure that data is processed, transformed, and delivered for real-time decision-making in dynamic operational environments.
  • Ensure the reliability and performance of data systems supporting C2 applications, including handling large-scale, high-velocity data from diverse sources.
  • Integrate data across cloud, tactical edge, and on-premise environments to enable seamless flow of mission-critical data.
  • Implement security protocols and access control measures to ensure compliance with DoD and Army security standards, especially in operational theaters.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and software developers to enable data analytics and machine learning workflows for advanced C2 capabilities.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Certification: Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CISM).
  • Required Experience: 3-5 years of experience in data engineering, focusing on mission-critical or real-time data systems.
  • Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and familiarity with data pipeline frameworks (ETL/ELT). Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure) and familiarity with Army/DoD environments, including operational and tactical data flows. Strong understanding of Command and Control (C2) systems, architectures, and their role in military operations.
  • Security Clearance Level: Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • Required Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in high-pressure environments where rapid data-driven decisions are critical.
  • Preferred Skills: Experience with the integration of data systems supporting Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) or similar initiatives. Familiarity with military-grade data security protocols and data governance practices. Experience with modern data management tools and techniques such as Kafka, Apache NiFi, or real-time streaming technologies. Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), automation, and DevOps processes. Knowledge of machine learning and data analytics tools, with an emphasis on applications in C2 decision-making.
  • Location: Wiesbaden Germany
