Job Description

You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and integrity of backup and disaster recovery operations across a wide range of IT assets including messaging systems, virtual servers, databases, web servers, file systems, and directory services. How a Backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) Administrator Will Make an Impact:

Ensure the security posture of the servers remain in compliance

  • Manage and maintain the enterprise backup and disaster recovery platform ensuring a 99.99% uptime and operational capability.

  • Support data protection for multiple IT environments including:

    • Messaging systems (e.g., Exchange, M365)

    • Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)

    • Enterprise databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle)

    • Web and application servers

    • File systems and directory services (e.g., Active Directory)

  • Conduct semi-annual disaster recovery drills, ensuring successful recovery of critical systems and data.

  • Lead OS upgrade migrations to remain within 18–24 months of vendor release timelines.

  • Explore and potentially implement automated data migration to off-premises (cloud or secondary site) solutions.

  • Maintain documentation for backup configurations, schedules, policies, DR procedures, and recovery testing.

  • Monitor backup and storage systems for capacity, performance, and hardware/software health.

  • Provide platform assessments that include:

    • Licensing utilization

    • Storage capacity, usage, and growth forecasts

    • Hardware and software performance metrics

  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

  • Develop and enforce data retention policies aligned with organizational and compliance requirements.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Education:  BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technology field. Experience may be substituted for education. 

  • Required Experience: Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience supporting projects of similar size, scope and complexity.

  • Required Technical Experience:  Hands-on experience with Commvault products or similar enterprise backup solutions.  Strong knowledge of data protection strategies, backup technologies, storage systems, and recovery procedures.  Experience with cloud storage and disaster recovery planning. Candidate will be required to acquire DoD Instruction 8570 Level II Certification within 6 months of assignment.

  • Security Clearance Level: Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility and a T5 or T5R within the last 5 years

Required Skills and Abilities: Highly motivated.  Understanding of system performance monitoring and tuning.  Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.  Strong communication and documentation skills. Location: Washington, District of Columbia; limited telework may be available

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $110,500 - $149,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
