Job Description

You will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with a Veteran first vision to transform the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) with greater visibility into claims processing. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in modern AI/ML concepts and technologies, with demonstrated experience leading solution design and translating complex technical capabilities into mission-aligned, compliant solutions for government environments. This role requires the ability to evaluate emerging AI/ML approaches, architect responsible and secure implementations.

As the Solutions Architect, you will be entrusted to deliver business and technical architectural guidance to development teams encompassing both established and innovative products and services.  Specifically, you will provide software and product architecture to achieve the desired business outcomes for VBA through incremental product delivery of Unified Claims Acceleration Platform (UCAP). You will be charged with defining milestone delivery and success metrics, and overseeing all facets of technical implementation of UCAP functional capability being developed and deployed.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies solutions based on business and technical criteria, and defines / implements solution designs and patterns in an AWS Cloud Environment
  • Leads a multi-disciplined staff of IT professionals
  • Ensures technical architecture teams deliver efficient and effective system solutions to support business goals and objectives
  • Develops, enhances, and maintains established service design by applying process frameworks and methodologies
  • Prepares technical presentations and analyst briefings
  • Identifies customer requirements, analyzes alternatives, and conducts product recommendations related to software, platform, and network configurations
  • Provides updates to stakeholders on solution milestones
  • May serve as a team or task lead
  • Utilize professional judgement, critical thinking skills and research to improve program processes and resolve issues affecting program performance
  • Prepare ad hoc presentations and reports and present them to VA stakeholders
  • Support change management activities that lead to success adoption of UCAP functionality being deployed and matured

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of software development, design and product experience related to the development and deployment of outcome-based functional capability
  • 7+ years of direct experience designing and deploying AWS cloud-based managed service solution
  • 2+ years of experience designing and architecting solutions utilizing AI/ML technologies.
  • Must demonstrate the ability utilize critical thinking skills to resolve challenging issues related to resolving incorrect processing of pension claims
  • Knowledge and experience in government contracting and business-to-government (B2G) sales.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to business leaders
  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience developing technical presentations and/or writing and presenting business case and white papers
  • Strong conceptual and solutioning knowledge of Gen AI technologies and understanding of various foundational models.
  • AWS AI Practitioner, Machine Learning Engineer Associate, Generative AI Developer Professional, or Machine Learning Specialty Certifications.
  • Experience with the Dept of Veterans Affairs, either as a government official or contractor.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry.
  • Agile methodologies as applied broadly across a diverse IT program, both at the strategic and tactical layers.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $148,750 - $201,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
