Network Engineer Advisor

Job Description: 

Summary:

We are seeking a Lead Cisco Network Engineer to design, implement, and oversee the networking infrastructure required for DoD data center common services and tenant application migration and modernization in Europe. This role requires deep expertise in Cisco ACI, advanced TCP/IP networking, and the ability to lead a small engineering team through design, build, testing, and migration phases. The Lead Cisco Network Engineer will ensure high availability, performance, and security across multiple security enclaves and application environments, while coordinating closely with systems and cybersecurity teams.

Core Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of data center network architectures.
  • Manage and mentor network engineers, ensuring alignment with overall migration strategy.
  • Develop migration plans for LAN/WAN connectivity, inter-site links, and enclave separation.
  • Oversee configuration, testing, and deployment of Cisco ACI fabrics and policies.
  • Troubleshoot high-priority network issues during migration events.
  • Ensure network solutions align with performance, reliability, and security objectives.

Technical Knowledge & Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Deep expertise in Cisco ACI, APIC management, and multi-tenant fabric design.
  • Configure and manage data center LAN environments and interconnects to multiple WANs.
  • Optimize routing, switching, and IP service delivery for diverse application needs.
  • Integrate network segmentation and security policies into the architecture.
  • Lead performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting of network services.
  • Proficient in using automation and scripting languages relevant to networking (e.g. Python or REST API scripting for Cisco ACI/network devices, Bash/Python for security tools and Linux-based systems).
  • Experience developing scripts or using automation frameworks to streamline configuration management, system provisioning, monitoring, and reporting in enterprise data center environments.
  • Skilled in leveraging vendor-specific automation platforms and APIs (e.g., Cisco NX-OS/ACI automation, security tool API integrations) to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or related field

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 8+ years experience with Data Center Networking, Network Design, and Network Engineering

Certifications:  One or more of the following certifications:

  • Cisco CCNP Data Center (required), CCIE Data Center (preferred)
  • Cisco Certified Specialist – ACI Implementation
  • CompTIA Network+ or equivalent networking fundamentals
  • ITIL Foundation (for operational readiness processes)


TESA Accreditation Requirements

A bachelor's degree plus 3 years of recent specialized experience,

OR; An associate's degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience,

OR; A major certification (as defined and accepted by DOCPER) plus 7 years of recent specialized experience,

OR; 11 years of recent specialized experience

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $123,250 - $166,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range. Total compensation for international positions varies by tax, social security, and immigration statuses, as well as location. Generally, an international assignment may include allowances, premium uplifts, and/or relocation or transportation benefits, above base salary range noted.
