General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a Appian Architect to join our team supporting the FDA and also the broader HHS business areas.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the federal agency responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.
The Appian SME will provide expert leadership and guidance on projects, design review, technical mentorship, performance testing, scaling, and industry specific knowledge. This person will utilize Appian's Best Practices and industry best practices when operating and maintaining existing solutions, and to architect and design Business Process Management (BPM) implementations that reduce overall project risk. The Appian Solutions Architect will design solutions (platform, system, and process) architectures based on end-user requirements and complete design reviews of project team deliverables to ensure adherence to best practices, maximize reuse, and minimize technical debt.
This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence 3x/week in Gaithersburg, MD or Silver Spring, MD.
Responsibilities:
Act as lead liaison with customers to collect, clarify, analyze and translate business requirements into technical design and implementation
Produces technical solutions with detailed narrative for proposal development and supports key personnel requirements during procurement phases such as orals, technical challenges, etc.
Collaborates closely with stakeholders to develop a deep and thorough understanding of the client enterprise while leading large, multi-year program initiatives
Produces vision and strategy collateral, and creates roadmaps to lead modernization efforts
Serves as one of the primary technological points of contact in the organization, responsible for guidance and overarching technical oversight, governance, architecture alignment and construction efforts, including team leadership and mentoring
Create and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, interface diagrams and design best practices
Facilitate meetings with client and internal technical and operational teams
Provide guidance to team members and help solve technical challenges and remove roadblocks
Experienced in Appian 18.x (and above) design, implementation and ability to translate software requirements specifications into Appian application and prototype.
Implementing design, development, and testing best practices across the entire software development life cycle.
Oversee and participate in the day-to-day activities of the development team.
Oversee team of developers to perform root-cause analysis and preliminary problem diagnosis
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Computer Science or equivalent.
10+ years of experience in IT with responsibilities in one or more of the areas - Technical Architecture, Application Development, Business process management and/or Enterprise Application Integration (SOA) with Appian or other BPM tools is required.
3+ years in defining and documenting architecture for technology implementations leveraging different architectural views.
4+ years of experience in all phases of software development for large-scale business critical applications following Agile methodologies.
4+ years of recent hands-on experience with Appian.
3+ years of experience developing Appian Plugin
4+ years of experience in the design and implementation of SOAP and REST Web Service.
4+ years of working knowledge of Application Servers like JBoss, Weblogic, IIS, Tomcat etc. as part of the installation.
4+ years experienced in configuring, debugging, and systems integration including configuring forms, reports, underlying logic, and interface components as a developer.
4+ years of experience with relational databases and SQL scripting. Oracle Databases preferred.
3+ years of experience working with Appian Tempo.
Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Certified Level 3 Appian Developer
Experience working with Appian Sites.
3+ years of experience with Agile Framework.
Orchestration of modeled process through a Workflow application.
Understanding of Object-Oriented techniques.
Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations.
Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements.
Excellent analytical and technical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.

The likely salary range for this position is $148,750 - $201,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
