Job Description

Seize your opportunity to make a personal impact as a Senior Cloud Engineer. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer with over 5 years of experience in Application Modernization to join our dynamic team. The position will play a critical role in the modernization of the Delivery Operations Information System (DOIS) for the United States Postal Service (USPS).  

The Senior Cloud Engineer will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of AWS cloud infrastructure for the DOIS modernization project for USPS. The individual will leverage AI tools such as GitHub Copilot to enhance cloud infrastructure management and automation. HOW A SENIOR CLOUD ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Design, configure, and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS services such as AWS Transform, AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), and AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Utilize AI tools like GitHub Copilot to generate code, automate cloud infrastructure tasks, and optimize performance.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation to ensure consistent and reliable deployments. Follow Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices.
  • Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and cost optimization of cloud resources.
  • Monitor and maintain cloud environments, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security of the DOIS system.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to integrate cloud infrastructure with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure complies with USPS’s security policies, data governance, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, configuration scripts, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for cloud-related issues and incidents.
  • Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end reporting solutions, leveraging full stack developer skills to integrate front-end visualization tools with back-end data processing and storage systems.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields, preferred but not required.
  • If there is no relevant college degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required.

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, with a strong focus on AWS.
  • Experience with AI tools, particularly GitHub Copilot, for cloud infrastructure management.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and systems administration in cloud environments.

Required skills:

  • Proficiency in AWS cloud services, automation tools, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines.

Desired Skills:

  • AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer).
  • Experience in a USPS environment or similar federal IT projects.
  • Certification in cloud technologies (e.g., Certified Kubernetes Administrator).
  • Experience with Version One Agile Lifecycle Management Tool.

Security Clearance Level:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting
  • This position has a U.S. residency requirement. The USPS security clearance process requires the selected candidate to have resided in the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for the last five years as follows: U.S. Citizens cannot have left the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for longer than 6 months consecutively in the last 3 years (unless they meet certain exceptions). Non-U.S. Citizens cannot have left the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for longer than 90 days consecutively in the last 3 years.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $144,500 - $195,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
