Job Description

You will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with a Veteran first vision to transform the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) with greater visibility into claims processing. The candidate will lead the AWS cloud infrastructure and operations team, overseeing system administration, monitoring, performance tuning, and configuration management for product development and deployment. They will partner closely with Technical Leads, Developers, Data Analysts, Workflow Engineers, and Business Analysts to implement, refine, and optimize our solutions to meet key VBA outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day infrastructure/operations across program functions, ensuring seamless execution of Development, Operations and business support services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for infrastructure/operational activities with the customer, program leadership, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage staffing, workforce planning, and resource allocation to meet mission requirements.
  • Oversee and meet Service Level Expectations (SLEs), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and infrastructure/operations reporting to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement process improvements, risk mitigation strategies, and self-service initiatives.
  • Partner with program leads and coordinate with developer teams as needed to align delivery with customer priorities.
  • Ensure adherence to VA security, compliance, and governance requirements.
  • Support financial management activities including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and professional growth.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Must have 5+ years of experience in program/operations management within Federal contracting and mission support in a cloud environment.
  • Must have 2+ years of deployment and operations experience with custom-integrated solutions where multiple integrations are present
  • Must have 2+ years of continuous operations monitoring and resolving operational issues within defined recovery windows
  • Demonstrated success managing teams and operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with AWS services, examples including AWS GovCloud, EC2, Lambda, EKS, S3, EBS/EFS, RDS, Redshift, Elasticache, VPC/Gateways, Route 53, CloudWatch/Trail, IAM, Secrets Manager, SQS/SNS, Quicksight, SageMaker and Bedrock. 
  • Strong knowledge of operational delivery models, such as DevSecOps and ITIL.   
  • Experience with performance management, SLEs, and customer engagement.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Must be able to obtain a Veterans Affairs Public Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting. RealID, non-expired passport or military ID is also required for this process.

Desired Skills:

  • Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $93,500 - $126,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
