Job Description

DATA ENGINEER SR PRINCIPAL

The Data Engineer will work closely with the team to advance Human Language Technologies (HLT), with a focus on refining text and audio translation capabilities.  This position will be responsible for establishing an environment to train custom models for the top language types currently available in our triage tool.  Additionally, this role will enable the organization to develop the capacity to train low-resource languages which may emerge as future priorities.  The individual in this role will work closely with Data Scientists, providing comprehensive support and ensuring seamless coverage. A professional who utilizes statistical analysis, programming skills, and machine learning techniques to collect, clean, analyze, and interpret large datasets, extracting valuable insights and creating predictive models 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Identifying patterns, trends, and anomalies within the data through visualization and statistical techniques 

  • Create new features or transforming existing ones to improve the performance of machine learning models 

  • Implementing models into production systems and continuously monitoring their performance to identify potential issues 

  • Troubleshoots complex problems and provides customer support as needed 

  • Develop complex data flows, or make significant enhancements to existing pipelines. 

  • Conducts investigations and tests of considerable complexity. 

  • Researches emerging technologies to determine impact on application execution. 

  • Provides input to staff involved in writing and updating technical documentation. 

  • Prepares reports on analyses, findings, and project progress. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience 

  • 10+ years of related software engineering experience. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience with the following languages: Python, NodeJS 

  • Hands on experience working with technologies such as Nifi, Tensorflow, PyTorch, and Sagemaker 

  • Familiar with audio processing technologies such as Librosa, PyAudio Analysis or Open Smile. 

  • Familiar with text processing technologies such as NGTK, Spacy, or Stanford Core NLP 

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS. 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way  

  • Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project or study  

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • Experience with machine learning and AI  

  • Familiarity with data management tools  

  • Ability to work independently and with team members from different backgrounds  

  • Excellent attention to detail

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $187,000 - $253,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
