Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Lead Data Scientist to serve as the Task Lead in support of the STRATCOM Command Information Technology Leadership Support (SCITLS) contract. This individual will provide strategic direction and technical leadership across advanced data science, AI/ML, quantum computing, and database initiatives aligned with USSTRATCOM’s mission priorities.

As Task Lead, you will manage a multidisciplinary team and lead the development, experimentation, and deployment of advanced analytics capabilities within a secure and high-impact defense environment. You will also serve as the technical authority for integrating emerging technologies into the Command’s enterprise.

HOW a Lead Data Scientist/AI Machine Learning Lead will make an IMPACT:

  • Enterprise Database Management: Direct design, integration, and performance optimization of Command-wide database environments.
  • Data and AI Services: Lead AI/ML development lifecycles, ensuring responsible AI principles and secure, scalable deployment.
  • Command Lab Environment (CLE): Oversee agile experimentation and prototyping for AI, ML, and data science innovation.
  • Enterprise Data Science (EDS): Manage Command-wide data science strategy, including predictive analytics and KPI modeling.
  • Quantum Computing: Guide R&D and feasibility studies in quantum algorithms and their applicability to Command objectives.

Leadership & Strategic Direction

  • Lead a team of data scientists, ML engineers, big data specialists, and software engineers.
  • Establish and execute the Command’s strategic vision for AI and data science adoption.
  • Define technical architecture and ensure alignment with mission objectives and compliance frameworks.
  • Mentor and grow talent across the data science workforce.

Advanced Analytics & Modeling

  • Develop predictive models, NLP algorithms, and time-series analytics.
  • Drive research in emerging methods including reinforcement learning, unsupervised learning, and dimensionality reduction.
  • Interpret performance metrics and operational data to guide Command decisions.

Operational Integration & Collaboration

  • Partner with engineers and developers to integrate solutions into secure DoD infrastructure.
  • Deliver insights to mission leaders using advanced visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, D3).
  • Ensure version control, reproducibility, and documentation using Git-based workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in data science, AI/ML, or advanced analytics roles.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, and open-source machine learning frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success managing technical teams and large-scale analytics projects.
  • Familiarity with big data platforms and tools (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, H2O.ai).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to brief senior leadership.
  • DoD 8140 qualified
  • ITIL 4 Foundation ITSM certification or ability to obtain within 9 months of hire

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in a STEM discipline.
  • Experience with quantum computing concepts or pilot projects.
  • Exposure to DoD environments, mission-driven data, or classified workflows.
  • Experience with Database schema design and ERD tools such as Erwin Data Modeler, SparxEA, and Oracle SQL Developer
  • Experience with data pipelines, MLOps, and containerized deployments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Working knowledge of tools like GitHub, Rancher, or enterprise analytics stacks.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $166,280 - $224,968. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
