Job Description

Join GDIT where your work will improve outcomes for our Veterans. You will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with a Veteran first vision to transform the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) with greater visibility into claims processing. Together, we’re building a future of fast, transparent claims, empowered teams, and striving for a zero backlog, directly supporting Veterans and making a real impact on the lives of those who served. This high-impact solution accelerates the delivery of benefits to Veterans and their families.

As we support FOIA/PA, the Data Visualization/Reporting Engineer will transform data from a variety of sources, and present using visualization tools (such as Tableau or QuickSight). This role requires data engineering to merge and collate data into meaningful data sets or arrays using data transformation tools (such as Python or similar tools). The role focuses on elevating FOIA/PA redaction staff performance and daily through-put metrics for internal program consumption and for VBA stakeholder visibility. The candidate will work closely with the FOIA/PA technical tools staff and FOIA/PA subject matter experts (SMEs) to define metrics, dashboards, and reporting schemes for internal and stakeholder reviews.

Whether analyzing user needs, supporting system development, or guiding workflow improvements, you’ll enable more intelligent decisions and more effective outcomes in areas like healthcare, benefits delivery, logistics, or compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines to extract, transform, and load structured and unstructured FOIA/PA case management data into scalable AWS-based data platforms

  • Design and optimize data architectures using AWS services like Glue, Redshift, S3, Athena, Lambda, EMR, and RDS.

  • Support data ingestion from legacy systems and external partners, including OCR, APIs, and flat files as required to support data analytics engineering

  • Develop reusable scripts and automation for data transformation and orchestration (Python, SQL, PySpark, etc.).

  • Prepare, demonstrate and present highly complex data visualizations, such as charts and graphs, for FOIA/PA case management success metrics.

  • Design and develop new data visualizations, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms using Tableau or QuickSight or a similar tool.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune performance of ETL workflows and database systems.

  • Contribute to DevSecOps and CI/CD practices for data engineering components.

Requied Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, related field, engineering or a related scientific or technical discipline with at least 8+ years of experience

  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering and/or data visualization tools

  • 4+ years of experience in Python, SQL, and ETL development

  • 3+ years of experience in Tableau and QuickSight or similar tool

  • Hands-on experience with AWS data services (Glue, S3, Redshift, Lambda, Athena, etc.).

  • Familiarity with data lake and data warehouse architectures

  • Experience with DevOps tools, version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines

  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting.

Desired Skills:

  • AWS certifications such as Data Analytics – Specialty or Solutions Architect preferred.
