Todd Wieser is a Department of the Air Force civilian. He serves as the Chief Technology Officer and the Science, Systems, Technology, and Innovation Development Division lead for Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC); the air component arm of United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). He is the command's senior science, systems, technology, and innovation development leader and advisor.
His duties include developing strategy and guidance, establishing systems and technology standards, formulating the enterprise architecture, developing and overseeing innovation efforts, and providing systems development and acceptance oversight. All of these activities are to ensure Air Force Special Operations Forces (AFSOF) have the functional, interoperable, sustainable, and secure capabilities necessary to perform the nation's most critical missions. This includes technologies and systems affecting aircraft, ground vehicles, operating centers, operating nodes, and personnel.
A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mr. Wieser entered military service when he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve and attended Officer Candidate School during college at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He was subsequently appointed to the United States Air Force Academy where he was a distinguished graduate and the Cadet Wing Commander. After graduation, he was commissioned a United States Air Force officer. During his military career he was a rated pilot and engineer. He flew conventional and special operations aircraft and served in many special operations aviation, command, staff, and systems development focused units and in many leadership positions. Mr. Wieser participated in multiple operations and humanitarian missions. He was involved in 9/11 response actions in New York, and follow-on operations around the globe. He retired from the military in 2013.
After a break from active duty, he assumed his current role as AFSOC’s first Chief Technology Officer. In 2018, he was also assigned to lead innovation development within the command.
Mr. Wieser has a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy, a graduate degree in Systems Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional. He is an active member of IEEE, ACM, (ISC)2 , SAE, and INCOSE.
