HOW A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

We are looking for a Community Engagement Specialist to join our team. You will be responsible for interacting with community stakeholders for a nationwide project focused on inventory and replacement of lead pipes in water systems. Through this role, you will interact state and local government officials, water utility professionals, public health practitioners, local non-profit groups, and the general public to convey the goals of technical assistance delivery to each community.

As our Community Engagement Specialist, you will have to plan and organize events related this project. You will assist with creating community engagement plans, track progress in each community, and compile summary reports describing the outcome of each engagement. You will use your relationships with local community partners to assist in the management and execution of this project.

Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and members of each community
  • Planning and developing community engagement plans
  • Developing effective strategies for outreach in each community, tailored to the specific needs of each locality
  • Identifying creative approaches to community outreach that meet the communities’ needs
  • Compiling communication engagement summary reports
  • Planning and organizing events
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams of staff providing technical assistance including project managers, scientists, engineers, GIS specialists, analysts, and communication and outreach experts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communication, or Education
  • 5+ years of experience in relevant projects involving community engagement
  • Proven ability to build trust, and encourage community residents to participate in change-making activities in their community
  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to adapt communication strategies based on the specific needs of different communities
  • Knowledge of current communication and outreach tools, strategies, and best practices
  • Adept at working in a fast-paced environment with changing direction and quick turnaround deliverables
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Willing and able to travel frequently to communities across the U.S.
  • Travel estimated at 30-50%

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $52,603 - $87,859. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
