Job Description
GDIT is hiring a Biostatistician/Statistician Epidemiologist to provide support to the Epidemiology Task Force. The COVID-19 Epidemiology Task Force Response is critical to accomplishing the CDC’s mission and goals during the COVID-19 pandemic. This position will give support to the Enhanced Surveillance Platforms team the coordinates surveillance of respiratory disease and vaccination including COVID-19 and RSV among others throughout the US.Statistics support is needed as surveillance, research efforts and datasets expand. Support is required in areas of epidemiology, communication, and field support. A Statistician has the necessary education and work experiences to provide support to the task force on emergency response areas of epidemiology, data analytics (coding and practice), and statistical methods (modeling, regression, survival analysis, multivariate analysis) at an expert level.RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide technical oversight and coordinate collection, management, and analysis of data from COVID-19 and other respiratory disease surveillance systems
  • Work on disease burden estimation (e.g. estimating attributable fraction, incidence rate calculation) and observational vaccine effectiveness estimation (e.g. test-negative design, case-control analyses)
  • Develop, revise, and review study protocols, questionnaires, and other data collection forms (e.g. REDCap)
  • Provide quality assurance guidance to technical and program staff to ensure data integrity including preparing program guidelines to increase consistency, performing necessary data checks and managing datasets and data documentation
  • Maintain relevant IRB approvals for research with human subjects at CDC and provide technical support for approvals at collaborating institutions
  • Liaise with principal investigators, site coordinators, study enrollers, and laboratory personnel; or jurisdictional principal investigators, coordinators and data managers
  • Write and troubleshoot SAS programs, organize, test, and streamline the surveillance system data components, and create SAS datasets for analyses.
  • Perform descriptive analyses of data for epidemiological studies using SAS or an equivalent package (e.g. R).
  • Assist with preparation of scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, develop data reports, write programs, and analyze data as needed for reports, abstracts, presentations, and papers.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Skills and Experience
  • PhD in statistics with a 3+ years of analytic work experience with epidemiologic/public health or clinical studies OR
  • M.S. in statistics with 5+ years of experience as outlined above
  • Capable of advanced programming in SAS or R and experience working with large datasets
  • Experience working on disease burden estimation (e.g. estimating attributable fraction, incidence rate calculation) and observational vaccine effectiveness estimation (e.g. test-negative design, case-control analyses)
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Previous CDC experience 
  • Experience with simulation modelling
  • Experience as a statistical consultant and demonstrated ability to work with public health collaborators from diverse professional backgrounds

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $112,000 - $168,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
