GDIT Honored with Washington Business Journal Corporate Pride Award for Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), announced that it has received the Washington Business Journal’s 2022 Business of Pride Award in the large company category.

The Business of Pride Awards honor Greater Washington companies and business leaders for outstanding practices in advancing LGBTQ+ leadership and equality in the workplace. GDIT was recognized for its inclusive workplace policies, educational programing to bring awareness to LGBTQ+ representation, and its leadership support and recognition of the LGBTQ+ community.

GDIT has made significant strides to update workplace policies and establish programs to support LGBTQ+ employees, their families, allies, and communities. The company provides management resources and guidelines for employees considering transitioning to effectively support them through the process. In addition, medical benefits have been expanded to include equivalency in same and different sex spousal coverage, equal health coverage for transgender individuals, and documentation of inclusive insurance options to employees and eligible dependents.

PRIDE, the company’s employee resource group for LGBTQ+ employees and allies, provides a platform for employees to work together to build awareness of the community’s needs as well as promote the recruitment, retention, and professional development of LGBTQ+ employees.

Furthermore, the company’s commitment to diversity is reflected by its other eight employee resource groups. Together, they collaborate and present discussions on intersectional topics, including transgender health and suicide prevention, Black-LGBTQ+ leaders, and mental health in the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to the educational discussions, the PRIDE employee resource group also hosts guest speaker events covering topics beyond the workplace. Examples include parenting a transgender child, Focus on HER and her trans journey, and rising through the ranks in the military as a gay officer.
